The way you picture God in your mind when you pray may be similar to that of the person next to you, or it may be very different. In fact, if you were to ask a number of people what they "picture" when they pray, you may be startled by the diversity: a brilliant light, a black hole, a kindly man under a tree, or even a scowling man with folded arms. Of course the list would go on and on and may include: The Taskmaster, Mr. Fix-It, Cheerleader, My Friend or My Soul Mate.
The problem is that an infinite God cannot be perfectly described by something finite like language. Even the Bible, perfect as it is in its simplicity, cannot tell us completely what God is like. If the word pictures in God's holy word only dimly reflect His glory, then the picture in our heads certainly cannot be perfect either. "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." 1 Corinthians 13:12 Still, if we are to get the most accurate picture of who God is then we have to start with what God has given us.
That is what this whole Bible Timelines Online website is all about. The more we learn about God the greater will be our admiration of His character, the more we will love Him and our picture of who He is will be that much clearer, even if it is not perfect.
