Jesus foretold the destruction of the Temple.
Matthew:
24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples
came to [him] for to show him the buildings of the temple.
24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these
things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon
another, that shall not be thrown down.
Mark
13:1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto
him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings [are here]!
13:2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings?
there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall
not be thrown down.
Luke
19:43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine
enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in
on every side,
19:44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and
they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest
not the time of thy visitation.
21:5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly
stones and gifts, he said,
21:6 [As for] these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which
there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Forty years after Jesus died on the cross the Romans destroyed not only the Temple but also Jerusalem. Today, all that is believed to be left of the Temple is what is known as the "wailing wall", but even that would be from what was left of another rebuilding effort, because Jesus had said, "there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
