Chronological Bible Commentary |
This commentary is a tool much like a
telescope. Using it can make what is already in the Bible much clearer,
but it cannot add to it. Most Bible commentaries allow you to search by
Bible verse, but this is not your typical Bible commentary. Most of what
is found in this commentary is organized by subject and event. For the
most part it is written in chronological order and was designed to lead the
reader to a better understanding of the love of God so that we may know that we
can trust Him with our future.
(Please keep in mind that
the chapters listed below are the same ones found at the bottom of each "event"
page on a timeline. They have only been placed here for those who wish to
read starting at the beginning, without having to look for the next chapter.
Also, remember that the chapters you have not visited recently will be
GREEN
and those that you have viewed recently will be
RED, even if you
viewed them from a timeline link.)
The writer of this
commentary makes the following comments:
a. Nature of the Bible
- The entire Bible is the inspired word of
God.
- The "truth of God is found in His word." No
one need "seek elsewhere for present truth."
b. Purpose of the Bible
- The Bible sets the pattern for Christian
living.
- It contains "comfort, guidance, counsel, and
the plan of salvation as clear as a sunbeam."
- It is fitted for the needs of all--rich and
poor, learned and illiterate, "all ages and all classes."
- It contains all the knowledge that is
"necessary for salvation." Therefore, men should "cling" to their Bibles,
believe and obey them; and then "not one" of them [persons] would be lost.
c. Primacy of the Bible
- It is to be accepted "as an authoritative,
infallible revelation" of God's will.
- As such, it is "the standard of character,
the revealer of doctrines, and the test of experience."
d. Role of Spiritual Gifts:
- The existence of the Bible "has not rendered
needless the continual presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit."
- Rather, Jesus promised His followers the
gift of the Holy Spirit to "open the word to His servants" and "to illumine
and apply its teachings."
- Since consistency is an
attribute of Deity, and since it was the Holy Spirit who originally inspired
the Bible, it is impossible that the teaching of the Holy Spirit through the
gifts of the Spirit would be contrary to what the Bible says.
- The Holy Spirit was not, is not, and never
will be given "to supersede the Bible" because "the word of God is the
standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested."

These five volumes
cover the entire story of salvation from the origin of sin to sin's total
eradication from the universe.
